As part of preparation for the start of its new recycling and refuse service which starts on November 2, wheeled bins are being delivered in the Ledbury area this week.
Under the new service, wheeled bins will be delivered to the majority of households together with a detailed information pack on what can be put into the bins and when they will be collected.
Councillor John Jarvis, Herefordshire Council’s cabinet member for the environment and strategic housing, said: “I have listened to the views of county residents who want to recycle more and the bins will allow them to do this.
“People whose properties are found not to be suitable for bins because they have a lack of frontage or too many steps will have received a letter and will instead get a clear plastic sack collection of recyclable materials but they won’t be able to include glass for health and safety reasons.
“As well as increasing the amount of recycling, residents will also keep their weekly collection of household refuse using black sacks and a pack of 26 sacks to cover the first six months will be delivered with the bins or clear recycling sacks,” he added.
Nick Parker, chairman of Bishop’s Frome Parish Council, with his dog Willow as Laurraine Wall from Herefordshire Council’s waste management team delivers the wheeled bin for recycling.
Nick, who is a father of three, said: “I am really keen to recycle and support the scheme. It really is time we caught up with the rest of the country who have been doing it for a long time now.”
