Book Club opens new chapter for parents

12 October 2009

A new chapter is about to begin for mums and dads with young babies who want to meet up, read and talk about books with other avid readers at Herefordshire Council’s Colwall Library.

The new group will be called the Colwall Babe in Arms Book Group and will build on the success of similar groups already run by Hereford, Leominster and Ledbury Libraries.

The group will meet on the second Saturday of each month between 2.30pm - 3.30 pm and the first meeting will be on Saturday, November 14. It will be just like other reading groups with the only difference being that babies and small children can come along too.

The original idea came from a mother in Leominster, Liz Connolly.

“I really wanted to join a book group but I find it hard to get out in the evenings,” said Liz.

“This will be a chance to read with a purpose and discover books that I might never have tried before and not worry about trying to get a babysitter,” she added.

All the books will be provided by the library service from their readers group sets. The sessions are free, friendly and lots of fun.

Herefordshire Council’s reader development librarian, Anne-Marie Dossett, said the library service is right behind the idea. “This is a great opportunity for mums and dads to get together to talk about the books they love,” she said.
