HEREFORDSHIRE F.A.B.

Thunderbirds are alive and well, and living on Tracey Island, in…Herefordshire!

Located in the north east of the county, the market town of Bromyard is suddenly in the news for being “home” to the only Thunderbird puppets currently on display which were used in the making of the original Thunderbirds TV show – as well as the international rescue centre of Tracey Island.

All are housed within the Bromyard Museum of Trains, Boats and TV Memories, which – along with the Teddy Bears of Bromyard Museum – also features the first ever Mickey Mouse, one of the original Daleks, and a host of rare teddy bears.

Interest in the museum's contents has been revived following the appearance of the new Thunderbirds movie, and with Christopher Eccleston about to bring Dr Who back to life on the small screens, the museum's Dalek is being dusted down to take centre stage later this year.

A combination of the new, and the nostalgic, have helped put Bromyard on the tourist trail – with older visitors now starting to rub shoulders with an entirely new generation of Thunderbirds and Dr Who fans.

The Museum of Trains, Boats and TV Memories also has a special display of genuine World War II artefacts associated with the men from Warmington-on-Sea, as well as displays of model trains, boats, steam engines, pedal cars and vintage Scalextric.

But it is the original models of the Thunderbirds – as well as Captain Scarlet, Stingray and Joe 90 – which are currently capturing the public's attention.

Over in the Teddy Bears of Bromyard Museum, meanwhile, there are antique bears, dolls, prams, Disney toys, a huge Steiff bear and the smallest golly.

Both are open 10.30am to 4.40pm Tuesday to Saturday, up to October 31st. Admission prices are £4 for adults, and £2 for children. For further details about other visitors attractions in Herefordshire, log on to www.visitherefordshire.co.uk.
