FUN IN THE SUN AT LEOMINSTER YOUTH CENTRE



Leominster’s Youth Centre, in the Old Library, South Street, has arranged a varied schedule of FREE events and activities at the centre to keep the town’s youngsters occupied during the summer holidays.

The activities, which run from the middle to the end of August, kick off with the first of four sessions of filmmaking and production techniques for Young Women on the 12th August between 7-9 pm.

The programme of scheduled events is:
Thursday August 12 Rural Media Film Workshops (7-9pm)
Monday August 16 DJ, Rap, Hip-hop, Song writing. (1-4pm)
Tuesday August 17 Football tournament (1-5pm)
Wednesday August 18 Pop singing (1-4pm)
Monday August 23 Rock Band training (1-4)
Tuesday August 24 Quiz with the Fire Brigade (3.30-4.00pm)
Wednesday August 25 Netball tournament @ Bridge Street Sports
Centre (1-4pm)
Thursday August 26 Drama
Thursday August 26 Rural Media Film Workshops (7-9pm)
Tuesday August 31 Quiz with the Fire Brigade (3.30-4.00pm)
Monday September 6 Quiz with the Fire Brigade (3.30-4.00pm)

“We have several teams already for the both the Football and Netball tournaments but we’re still interested in hearing from other local teams or individuals who would be interested in participating. The age range for participants is 14 to 17 years of age,” said Coral Lemm, Community Youth Worker.

“In addition, Leominster Job club runs every Thursday between 2pm and 5pm for this year’s school leavers while evening opening during this period remains the same – Monday, Boys Group; Tuesday, Gaming Club; Wednesday, "drop in" and Thursday; Girls Group,” added Coral.

The Football tournament is being held on the playing fields area of the Grange and is being supported by partnership agencies which include Connexions, SHYPP, Sure Start, Leominster Drug Outreach Project, Leominster Town Council and the town’s Police.

“In addition we’re working in partnership to provide the remainder of the summer program with New Roots, The Music Pool and Hereford and Worcester Fire Brigade,” said Coral.

As an added bonus to the summer’s activities, the Rural Media will hold FREE film making workshops from 7pm to 9pm on August 12 and 16 for girls. This activity will lead to a free residential session from August 27 to August 29.
