Leominster’s "Plan it Green" is putting words into action and having an environmentally-friendly heating system installed.
People walking past the resource on the Marshfield Site, off Ryelands Road, have been left intrigued after workmen moved in and began digging huge trenches – which are key to the operation of the ground source heat pump.
Workmen have been working on the site and they are currently at a critical stage laying the pipework in the trenches, which takes 2-3 days.
“This is practising what we preach,”
said Ian Johnson, the project leader at Plan it Green.
“We provide a service for local people, householders and local industries. We promote the environmental message, this includes information and advice about services and products to anyone wanting to do things in the most environmentally-friendly way,” he added.
“We’re an information and resource centre and a retail outlet for home and garden and we aim to be a showpiece for good domestic green practice. We house a display of PV cells and can offer advice on available grants, making good use of public moneys.”
Anyone wanting information on solar and wind power, advice on grant funding or even ground source heat pumps, Plan It Green is the place to go.
They have also made a video diary and have still records of the installation process to share with anyone who wants to know more. The internal pipework will be installed mid August.
The venture – which is staff by adults with learning disabilities – is supported by Herefordshire Council and is currently forging links with local businesses and organisations.
Part funding was secured for the innovative heating system through a grant from the Clear Skies initiative.
