Chance to explore county’s heritage at free open days

01 September 2009

Do you want to find out what life is like as a monk or find out about diseases and cures in Tudor England?

If so, then why not come along to one of this year’s Heritage Open days being held throughout the county from Thursday, September 10 until Sunday, September 13.

Heritage Open Days offer free admission and special events at a range of heritage sites around Bromyard, Hereford, Ledbury, and Leominster, details of which are given in an attractive county wide leaflet.

Highlights of this year’s events include free entry to all the county’s National Trust sites with their new Atmospheres themed rooms on Saturday, September 12 or a chance to meet a Barber Surgeon at The Masters House, Ledbury on Saturday, September 12 or at the Old House, Hereford on Sunday, September 13 when he will reveal facts about diseases and cures in the Tudor period.

Ledbury Heritage Centre is also offering an opportunity to learn about Tudor food on Friday, September 11.

There will be a chance to find out more about the life of a monk by visiting Belmont Abbey, Hereford, on Friday, September 11 or Saturday, September 12 and an opportunity to view areas not normally open to the public.

There will also be special guided tours of the Chained Library in Hereford Cathedral on Friday, September 11 and Saturday, September 12 and an opportunity to see sites not usually open to the public such as Garnons near Hereford, St Katherine’s chapel, Ledbury and Grange Court in Leominster.

Heritage Open Days is a nation wide initiative in which individual property owners and organisations are able to take part, co-ordinated nationally this year by English Heritage. Herefordshire Heritage Services is co-ordinating the activities in Herefordshire through a joint publicity leaflet.
