Sparkling plans for Hereford’s “jewel in the crown”

30 June 2009

Herefordshire Council and partner organisations are working together on plans to refurbish the Hereford Buttermarket into the city’s prime shopping destination.

Among the possibilities are ambitious plans to transform this historic building into a centre of excellence promoting locally grown produce.

However, the council wants to know what residents would like to see within the refurbished market and how people feel the building could be redesigned to create a key landmark in the historic centre of Hereford.

Councillor Blackshaw, cabinet member for economic development and community services, said: “The consultation aims to discover what improvements residents and visitors to Herefordshire would like to see undertaken at the Buttermarket including the products sold.

“The Buttermarket is a key location within the city and the refurbishment offers an opportunity to review what is sold within the market to promote the wonderful produce and products made in the county.”

A questionnaire will be available from stalls within the Buttermarket; the libraries within the city and market towns; the mobile library and tourist information centres.

There will also be an online questionnaire available on the council website. Visit  www.herefordshire.gov.uk and click the “your views on Hereford Buttermarket” link in the spotlight box.

The consultation runs until the end of August.
