Residents who live along Hereford's Holme Lacy Road will be breathing a sigh of relief on Monday next week, November 24.
The reason is that a new weight restriction means that the heavy lorries which have thundered past their homes will now be forced to use the recently opened Rotherwas access road.
A new 7.5 tonne weight restriction, between the junction of Holme Lacy Road with the A49 Ross Road and the railway bridge at Rotherwas, will mean that larger lorries over this weight using the road will be breaking the law and could face prosecution.
"We've put up signs in advance to warn the lorry drivers and have contacted businesses at Rotherwas to make sure they're aware of the changes," said Mairead Lane, the council's acting construction manager.
"The introduction of this weight limit means the council can now bring forward other proposals for the Holme Lacy Road which will mean improved access to Rotherwas for workers who use a bike or walk to work," added Mairead.
