County’s musical youngsters take to the stage

20 November 2008

Brass, wind and strings are all coming together in two big concerts to celebrate the county's young musical talent this week.

Herefordshire Council's music service is working with around 170 talented young musicians from across the county to prepare for the concerts which take place at the Shirehall, Hereford on 26th and 27th November.

The concert on Wednesday 26th November features performances from the Herefordshire Youth Brass Band, Herefordshire Training Brass Band, Young Musicians' Woodwind Ensemble and Herefordshire Youth Concert Band. Pieces being performed include Singing in the Rain, Puttin' on the Ritz, Tequila Sunset and Down to the River. Vivaldi's Winter, the Magnificent Seven and a TV showcase are also being performed.

On Thursday 27th November, the Preliminary String Group, Training Orchestra, Intermediate Orchestra and Saturday Players will perform a series of pieces which include In the Bleak Mid Winter by Gustav Holst, You're the One That I want by John Farrar and Caribbean Delight by Victor Lopez.

Clifford Woollard, Head of the Council's Music Service, said: "Performing in front of an audience is very much part of the learning process and experience our young musicians need to develop their skills. The standard is high with more young people than ever enjoying music across a wide age range".

Both concerts begin at 7.30pm and tickets are available on the door, adults £4, concessions £3, 18 years and under free.
