Football and sport are being given a boost at Riverside Primary school following the award of Football Association Club Link School status.
The award is in recognition of the school's commitment to football and sport which also promotes the health and well being of the children. The school recently appointed their own specialist football and sports coach, Colin Preece who has been involved in local football all his life and currently manages two teams at Phoenix Football Club, Hereford.
The award means that the children will enjoy some top-notch training and work with local football clubs. In addition the school will receive tickets for England under-21, youth and women's fixtures. As part of a separate initiative the school has also been provided with a new football kit by Tesco.
"Being made an FA club link school is recognition of the strong focus we place on sport and Colin Preece's success as our coach," said Jim Preston, head teacher at Riverside Primary School. He continued, "I am also very grateful to Tescos for donating the football kit which complements our new school uniform.
"We want all our children to enjoy being fit and healthy and hope to create even more sporting opportunities when we move into our new building next year."
The new school should be completed by Easter 2009.
