OLD CHAPEL BROUGHT BACK TO LIFE

The first project supported by the re-launched Redundant Building Grant programme has been completed.
Walford Chapel near Leintwardine, a Victorian Primitive Methodist Chapel that had been lying empty and unused for many years, has been refurbished and converted for office use, with the assistance of grant aid through this scheme.
The 96 sq m of workspace could create up to 6 new jobs.
It is being advertised by Balfours Land Agents (Tel: 01588 673314, e-mail: enquiries@balfours-agents.net, www.balfours-agents.com), who have already received a number of enquiries.
Dorothy Coleman, Programme Manager, said, “These projects can take a lot of time to plan, from the ideas stage to completion.
“It is very satisfying to see the end results, and know that we have helped to create jobs and provide business opportunities in this rural area.”
11 grants have now been awarded towards a wide range of conversion projects including an old brewery, a tinsmith’s, a range of farm buildings and a former garage.
These grants are funded through the Rural Regeneration Zone Programme by Advantage West Midlands, the regional development agency, and administered by Herefordshire Council.
Grants can contribute up to 25% of conversion costs, up to £62,500 for eligible projects within the Rural Priority Area and the Rural Regeneration Zone area.
This funding can make all the difference in making a project commercially viable. The priorities of the scheme are to create and safeguard jobs in areas faced by serious economic issues.
Similar schemes have been running since 1982 and have been proven to have a direct impact on communities by creating jobs and bringing new businesses into the area.
Rather than seeing redundant buildings being converted into flats and apartments, it is absolutely essential we do everything we can to provide business premises and create a framework for growth.
The scheme is particularly focused on the sympathetic conversion of historic buildings and workspace in priority industrial sectors including creative industries, environmental technologies, interactive media, food and drink and tourism and leisure.
