A new regeneration strategy for Hereford city centre has been launched with ambitious plans to see the city centre grow and expand during the next ten years.
Herefordshire Council and The Hereford City Partnership (HCP) have been working together to establish the strategy that aims to address challenges but also take full advantage of opportunities for Hereford city centre.
The priorities listed in the strategy document have emerged over the course of seven public consultation events involving key people interested and involved in regeneration of the city centre.
The strategy focuses on six key aims that range from creating a vibrant city, to improving transport and parking, regenerating the county through heritage, support for businesses, improving the look and feel of the city centre, and attracting visitors.
Cllr Blackshaw, cabinet member for economic development and community services, said: "This document sums up our approach in taking the broad view in addressing some of the problems facing Hereford city centre.
"HCP, working in partnership with Herefordshire Council, is a fine example of the public, private and voluntary sectors working together towards a common important aim".
This point was echoed by Bobbie Heavens, chairman of the City Centre Partnership, who said: "What is different and special about this document is that the actions will be delivered by a collaboration of effort.
"There's so much to do and we are excited to progress with many of the schemes - the projects are ambitious, but it is a time to be bold and decisive".
The strategy tackles the need to enhance buildings, but is also about creating the right environment for people to be proud of their city centre as a place they enjoy spending time whether as a place to live, work or visit.
Cllr Blackshaw added: "The regeneration of Hereford city is vital in winning back retail market share - Herefordians spending outside the county - lost to towns and cities on the boarders of our county. This strategy will help to redress this imbalance".
