An initiative to make sure youngsters from all families in the County have the best start in life is being celebrated later this month.
Herefordshire Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership (EYDCP) is
celebrating Herefordshire’s achievement in being the first authority to open a Neighbourhood nursery in the country and meeting its targets in the West Midlands.
More than £1.6 million has been given by the Government and the New Opportunities Fund to Herefordshire during the last three years to develop seven Neighbourhood Nurseries across the County.
These are: Hunderton, Little Acorns, Fourways Children Centre, Play and Learn, abc Nursery, Bargates Childrens Centre and Arrows Nursery.
More than 200 new full day care places have been created offering ‘affordable’ childcare in areas targeted by the Government and the response from parents and carers has been extremely positive.
Ruth Sinfield, Lead Officer at the EYDCP, said: “The development of these Neighbourhood Nurseries enables parents to have a choice and an opportunity to seek employment or take up further education.
“The Nurseries offer ‘affordable’ childcare in good quality provision that are pleasant and stimulating for the children. The fact that most of the childcare places have been taken up quickly demonstrates the success of the initiative," she added.
Celebrations – which are open to all parents - are taking place in all seven Neighbourhood Nurseries during Family Learning Week, October 11th – 17th .
