Additional wing at Oaklands Nursing Home, Hereford approved

06 November 2008

Plans for an additional wing at Oaklands Nursing Home, Hereford, were approved by members of the central area planning sub-committee at their meeting on Wednesday, November 5.

The application was deferred at the central area planning sub-committee meeting on October 1 to allow members to inspect the site.

The property in Bodenham Road has been used as a residential nursing home since 1982 and planning permission was granted in March 2007 for a single storey rear extension.

This application sought to create three further en-suite one bedroomed rooms.

The layout of the internal space has been designed to the National Standards for Care Homes which seek to reduce the number of shared rooms and provide each occupant with spacious accommodation and en suite bathrooms.

Herefordshire Council's conservation manager did not object in principle but felt this would be the maximum limit of any extension.

Two letters of objection were received concerned at loss of sunlight and saying the development would detract from the character of rear gardens of properties in Bodenham Road.
