A special graduation ceremony took place this week when a handful of patients who have suffered a brain injury celebrated their transition from re-learning to re-living.
The six patients had experienced an acquired brain injury and were celebrating the completion of the Return to Real Life programme; a holistic programme of rehabilitation, re-education and recovery.
Its main purpose is to support individuals in achieving the best practical outcome in their lives and in rediscovering a new sense of purpose and direction.
Dr David Quinn, Herefordshire Primary Care Trust's Head of Health Psychology and Consultant Neuropsychologist, said: "The people who have entered the Return to Real Life programme have shown courage, commitment and stark self-honesty to embark on this course, as they are often isolated from all that gave their life meaning.
"This graduation marks the transition from re-learning to re-living. Their achievements give hope to those who follow," he added.
The graduation took place at the Belmont Parish Hall and the graduates received their certificates from Sue Doheny, the PCT's managing director of provider services.
The graduates were responsible for much of the organisation of the event and even baked a special cake to mark their success.
