Some 35 volunteers turned out at the weekend to help The Friends of Castle Green Riverbank Project clear an overgrown site on the historic green.
The project, funded by Herefordshire Council, Hereford City Council, English Heritage and Amey, is aiming to keep the area looking as natural as possible but also to ensure it is properly managed so people can enjoy the wonderful natural views of the river.
Five people with learning disabilities joined the day on a voluntary basis and everyone enjoyed a barbecue lunch.
Councillor Mark Hubbard, chairman of the Friends of Castle Green, said: "It was a wonderful day and I must thank Jo Brandt from Acer Tree Services who was the saviour of the day in bringing along a wood chipper for us to use.
"The chippings were then collected by Amey and they will be using it as mulch throughout the county," he added.
The riverbank project is to be further developed over the next six months and anyone who would like to comment on the plans should visit the website http://www.friendsofcastlegreen.org.uk/ or contact Councillor Mark Hubbard on 01432 272684.
