Chance to learn more about Herefordshire’s past

06 October 2008

Herefordshire Council's archaeological service is staging a day-long event for anyone interested in the county's past and what is being done to preserve it.

The 11th annual symposium is being held at the Courtyard Theatre, Hereford, on Saturday, November 8 from 9.20am.

Highlights this year include reports on a Roman cemetery found at Stretton Grandison, an update on prehistoric remains in the Rotherwas area and news from the excavations at Credenhill Iron Age hillfort.

Dr Keith Ray, Herefordshire Council's county archaeologist, said: "This is always a popular day for people interested in the county's past and I would urge anyone wanting to come along to book their tickets soon.

"I am especially looking forward to the talk on the discoveries at Stretton Grandison which were spectacular and included individual burial sites, one with a completely preserved wooden coffin," he added.

Tickets are £10 (including tea and coffee) or £14.50 (including light lunch) and can be booked by calling 01432 340555.
