Hotel gains permission for 28 extra bedrooms

03 October 2008

Planning permission for an additional three-storey bedroom wing at The Three Counties Hotel, Belmont, Hereford, was approved by members of the central area planning sub-committee at their meeting on Wednesday, October 1.

The hotel currently has 60 bedrooms, 28 within the two-storey building and the remaining 32 in single storey chalet buildings.

The new extension will contain a further 30 en-suite bedrooms but two existing rooms will be lost to allow the development to take place.

Herefordshire Council's conservation manager said the design of the proposed extension is somewhat uninspired but would not have an overly detrimental effect on the area.

Hereford City Council has no objection in principle but recommended the application be refused due to poor design.

Belmont Rural Parish Council was delighted to learn the business is expanding but expressed concern that the building may overlook nearby properties.

One letter of objection was received, expressing concern at the height of the building and additional noise and disturbance arising from increased numbers of patrons.
