Change of use from B1 offices to police offices deferred

02 October 2008

Retrospective planning permission for the change of use from B1 offices to police offices at British Telecom Building, Barton Road, Hereford, were deferred by members of the central area planning sub-committee at their meeting on Wednesday, October 1.

The sub-committee were concerned over the issue of parking by staff in the nearby streets and required that a Travel Plan be completed and agreed prior to them making a decision on the application. The application will be re-considered at a later date.

BT still use the building as a telephone exchange with only 1,700 square metres used by the police.

The offices are not open to the general public and there is no manned reception or front counter. Apart from back office staff, a small uniformed team comprising one sergeant, two constables and CSOs operate from the building. A total of 102 people work at the building.

Fourteen letters of objection were received concerned at all-day parking, lack of parking for residents and driveways being blocked.
