Council telephone system affected by yesterday’s power cut

30 September 2008

Herefordshire Council is working to resolve a problem with its telephone system which was affected by yesterday's power fault which affected parts of the county.

Members of the council's ICT staff have been working through the night to restore a number of the council's computer systems which were affected by the power cut which struck around lunchtime yesterday.

This morning the council is still experiencing problems with incoming telephone calls - particularly those starting with the "38" prefix.

The authority is working with BT to reroute these to the council switchboard which will then transfer the calls internally.

Another legacy of yesterday's power outage is that residents cannot currently renew their library books via the council website.

The council apologises for any inconvenience caused by the problems which it hopes will be resolved later today.
