Herefordshire Council targets fuel poverty in Kington

25 September 2008

Herefordshire Council's energy efficiency experts are to spend a day at the Kington Information Centre on Tuesday, October 14, to help people in the town better understand how they can save money on their fuel bills.

The council's new Energy Champion, Councillor Phil Cutter, will be attending together with staff from the council's energy efficiency team.

Councillor Cutter said: "Kington is one of the areas we are targeting this year with our Special Energy Efficiency Scheme (SEES) and this means all householders in the market town are eligible for a £500 grant which can be spent on a variety of measures aimed at reducing their fuel bills.

"In my new role, I am keen to get out and about and help the people most in need so would urge anyone who is struggling to pay their fuel bills to come to the Kington Information Centre where we will be able to offer advice and possible cash support.

"I am aware fuel prices are rising at an unprecedented rate, and are forecast to rise even further, and having a better insulated home is one way to reduce this burden," he added.

Measures covered under the scheme are:

• Loft insulation
• Cavity wall insulation
• Draught proofing
• Thermostatic radiator valves
• Room thermostats
• Programmers
• Hot water cylinder thermostats
• Tank jackets
