Pedicargo celebrates first birthday

18 August 2008

It has been one year since Hereford Pedicabs launched their cargo and freight operation Hereford Pedicargo and, since then, they have travelled the equivalent distance as a trip across the Atlantic to America without any emissions.

One of their first customers was Herefordshire Council's modern records department and together, throughout the past year, they have achieved some astonishing results.

Pedicargo have used pedal power to help Herefordshire Council move more than 20,000 individual items of freight.

Founder and co-director Will Vaughan said: "We have been amazed by what we have achieved in our first year but this really shows that with the correct approach that emission free sustainable services can not only exist but thrive, even in a relatively small rural town."

Hereford Council has used Hereford Pedicargo to run a daily service to deliver planning files to the public and to circulate building samples and planning applications.

By supporting this local initiative they have saved tonnes of carbon emissions and improved their labour costs and productivity while providing a first class service to the general public.

Joby Davies, customer service officer at the Info in Herefordshire Centre at Garrick House, said: "We have been delighted to work with Pedicargo over the past 12 months. They have made a huge difference to the service we can offer. It used to take two to three days to get planning files for members of the public to see but now's they are now available the same day."

Will added: "I hope that we can not only carry on this service but continue to be leaders in our field and grow our provision to all companies, enabling them to have access to affordable and accessible green logistics solutions."
