Herefordshire Council to help taxi drivers by raising fares

13 August 2008

Herefordshire Council has agreed to help the county’s taxi drivers cope with the rising costs of fuel by allowing them to further raise their fares.

Current taxi fares were set by the regulatory committee on October 23, 2007 and were due to be reviewed in November 2008. The review is normally carried out annually.

The new fares, which have risen by 10 per cent, will come into effect 14 days after the first advertisement appears in the newspaper, providing no objections are received.

Members of the regulatory committee were told at their meeting on Tuesday, August 12, that if fares were not increased it could affect the number of taxis available for the public to use and affect Herefordshire’s ambition to provide an integrated transport system.

The fares will be reviewed in six months time.
