Two admit flytipping

30 July 2008

Two Herefordshire men appeared at Hereford Magistrates Court after admitting charges of flytipping. The charges were brought by Herefordshire Council’s Anti Social Behaviour Team.

Mark Philip Harrison of Newton Farm, Hereford, admitted dumping household waste at Merryhill Lane, Grafton and Arkstone Lane, Clehonger. A member of the public saw him dumping the waste and took down the registration number of his vehicle which helped to trace him.

He was fined £150 on each of the two counts of flytipping as well as being ordered to pay £175 costs.

David John Rose from Ross-on-Wye admitted dumping household waste at Rudhall Lane, Rudhall.

He was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £175 costs.

John Bobin, Herefordshire Council’s anti social behaviour unit manager, said: “Flytipping is a completely unacceptable practice and we take any reports of illicit dumping very seriously and will not hesitate to prosecute in such cases.

“We have plenty of household waste sites in the county where people can take their rubbish legally and even if they need to transport their rubbish in trailers or commercial vehicles all they need to do is get one of the free permits available from Info in Herefordshire centres,” he added.
