National strike: most council services will be open

15 July 2008

Herefordshire Council is working to keep most services open as usual during national strike action on 16 and 17 July, but a small number of schools will be affected.

The council expects to provide waste collection services and info shops, leisure centres, libraries, museums and tourist information centres will be open.

Most of the county’s schools and youth centres will remain open with minimum disruption for children, young people and parents. However, Blackmarston and Westfield special schools and Clehonger primary school will be closed for both days and Bridstow primary school will be closed from lunchtime on both days. St Martin’s primary foundation stage classes, which include the local authority nursery, will be closed and Peterchurch primary school will remain open although there will be some impact on the curriculum.

All youth centres will open as usual although Kington Youth Centre will have a reduced programme, and Ledbury Youth Centre will open only on the morning of 16 July for the Ledbury in Bloom judging of the young people’s garden.

The council is working to minimise disruption for local people, but says the extent of the impact of industrial action may change over the two days.
