Council makes claiming easy

People claiming cashback from Herefordshire Council after fitting a food waste disposer will now find it easier to make a claim.

A new leaflet and cashback application form is being circulated to DIY stores and kitchen showrooms in the county. The leaflet, urging people to fit a food waste disposer, will help them to find out about these gadgets, how to cut down on kitchen waste sent to landfill and how to claim cashback.

The Sink Your Waste scheme, which also applies to Worcestershire and run by their Waste Challenge Team, offers up to £80 cashback to residents to encourage wider use of food waste disposers.

Food waste disposers fit neatly under the kitchen sink and grind food leftovers and other food waste into tiny pieces. The waste is then flushed away cleanly and conveniently into the waste water system.

Councillor John Jarvis, Herefordshire Council's cabinet member for the environment and strategic housing, said: "We are encouraging people to deal with their waste in a responsible manner and using a food waste disposer is a very good way. By offering cashback and making the claims procedure very easy, we expect more and more Herefordshire residents will be using these devices in the future."
