Young people in Ledbury are in for a treat next week as the council's youth service has organised free graffiti workshops, street dance sessions, a skate park competition and a break dancing demonstration.
The activities kick off on Wednesday, 28th May from 10am-4pm when Urban Edge run a day-long workshop showing young people how to street dance. Good trainers, comfortable clothing and plenty of food and drink are advisable as participants will need plenty of 'fuel' to keep their energy levels up.
For those who prefer to be slightly less physical and use paint to express themselves, the youth service has employed a professional graffiti artist, Adam Yeoll from Bristol to work with young people in two graffiti workshops, one on Thursday (29th) and one on Friday (30th), both from 10-4pm. The workshops will begin by helping young people plan and design their work before eventually getting to practice on a 4"x4" board of their own (or share one with a friend).
The final works of art will be entered in a competition to be judged on Saturday at a big day of youth activity at the local recreation ground. Weather permitting, there will be a huge skate park competition giving skateboarders, scooter riders and mountain bikers the chance to show off their skills in the skate park and the Faction Dance Crewe will put on a break dancing demonstration for those who prefer to spectate rather than join in.
The Ledbury mayor, Keith Francis will judge the graffiti entries with Adam Yeoll and the winners will get their artwork displayed at the skate park over the summer vacation.
Councillor Jenny Hyde, cabinet member for children and young people, said: "We've listened to the young people who come to the youth centre in Ledbury and the youth workers have put on some exciting events for them this half term.
"I hope the weather stays dry and that local residents take the opportunity to visit the skate park on Saturday and enjoy some spectacular performances from professionals and local young people".
All events are suitable for young peopled aged 11+ and are free, although it is advisable to ring in advance to book a place.
