Licence suspended after under age sales

12 May 2008

M&G County Wines, 60 Commercial Road, Hereford, has had its drinks licence suspended for a 48-hour period after being found selling alcohol to under age people.

West Mercia Police sought the review of the licence. This review was carried out by Herefordshire Council's regulatory sub-committee on Friday, May 9.

The suspension comes into effect at midnight on May 31 which allows the applicant 21 days to appeal against the decision.

The premises was subject to two separate test purchase operations in three months and sold alcohol to a 16-year-old female and a 15-year-old female. The persons who made the sales were issued with a fixed penalty notice.

The regulatory sub-committee also added two further conditions to the licence for M&G County Wines.

These are:

· To ensure a personal licence holder is on the premises at all times
· To adopt a challenge 25 policy where anyone who looks under 25 has to provide suitable ID to prove they are over 18 before being served.
