Major exhibition of antique quilts at Hereford

A major exhibition of antique quilts from the Ceredigion Museum, the 25 for 25 collection from the Quilters Guild and quilts from Hereford Museum's own collection will open in June.

Held at Hereford Museum and Art Gallery, the exhibition runs from Saturday, June 28 until Sunday, August 31 and there will be a series of lectures and workshops running alongside the exhibition.

The lectures and workshops will be held at the Museum Resource and Learning Centre. Places are limited to 70 and people interested in attending should call 01432 383383 to book a place.

Lectures, held on Saturdays, and costing £8 each, are:

· July 5, 11am to noon: Gwenllian Ashley on Antique Quilts from Ceredigion Museum
· July 12, 11am to noon: Bridget Long on British Quilt History
· July 26, 11am to noon: Bridget Long on How to date British quilts.
· July 26, 1pm to 2pm: Sheilah Daughtree on Dating a patchwork quilt
· August 2, 11am to noon: Sheilah Daughtree on The History of Pins and Pincushions
· August 9, 11am to noon: Eve Finney on Provencal Corded Quilting and The History of Boutis
· August 23, 11am to noon: Jen Jones on Welsh Quilts and their stories, a lecture sponsored by Herefordshire Quilters.

A series of workshops for nimble fingers are being held, costing £6 for a half day or £12 for a full day. Places are limited to 10 per workshop so early booking is advised.

The workshops are:

· Wednesday July 9, 10am until 1pm: A Fold with Tradition, led by Lesley Brankin.
· Wednesday July 16, 10am until 1pm: Japanese folded patchwork, led by Leslie Brankin.
· Wednesday July 16, 2pm until 5pm, Sashiko led by Sheilah Daughtree.
· Wednesday July 23, 10am until 4pm: Diamond in the Square led by Anne Shoring.
· Wednesday July 30, 10am until 4pm: Liberated Quilt Making led by Anne Shoring.
· Wednesday, August 6, 10am until 4pm: Creative quilting led by Caroline Everett.
· Wednesday August 13, 10am until 4pm: Boutis for beginners led by Eve Finney.
· Saturday, August 16, 10am until 4pm: Boutis for beginners led by Eve Finney.
· Wednesday, August 20, 10am until 1pm: Needles and Pins, led by Sheilah Daughtree.
· Wednesday August 20, 10am until noon: Visit to the Museum Learning and Resource Centre in Friar Street to see some of Herefordshire Heritage Services rich collection of quilts.
