Busy summer at Ross Heritage Centre

12 May 2008

Ross Heritage Centre will be putting on displays, exhibitions and events during the coming months, which are very varied, as well as being very much community based.

There are still places available for the Archaeological Workshops on 10th May 10 (Flint) and May 17 (small finds). If anyone wishes to join in they must book at the Heritage Centre. Places are limited so an early booking is advisable.

Until May 27, Tony Avery and his students will be exhibiting and selling their artwork. This is a very welcome return to the centre by this group and they will be showing varied work throughout the weeks. Due to the amount of work there is for display, there will be a change over during the middle week. Further details of this can be obtained by calling the Heritage Centre.

During half term there will be the usual activity for children. The Hereford team will run "Inspiring Inventions" on Saturday May 31. Due to the popularity of activities, there will be two sessions starting at 10am and 11.15am. Booking for the Hereford team events can be done by telephoning 01432 260692. This activity will cost £2 per person.

Once again June is Craft Month at the Heritage Centre. Sue Parker is collecting together craft items from local people, both for display and sale. There will be a series of free workshops where experts will give demonstrations of craftwork including lace making and quilting. Full details of the programme of craft events will be available at the Heritage Centre once the details have been finalised. The exhibitions will be taking place from June 1 to 30.

As part of Heart of England in Bloom Month, once again John Kyrle High School students will be showing some of their 'A' level and GCSE Course Work. This annual event not only gives the students an opportunity to show there work to the general public, it is also a great opportunity for them to show pride in their town during the Heart of England in Bloom judging time. The work will be on show from July 7 to 31.

There will be a full programme of activities and events throughout the school summer holidays. Further details of these will be released nearer the time. The Ross team will be holding free drop in activities every Thursday while the Hereford Team will be holding bookable activities with a charge of £2 per head at other times.

For more details on any activities and other events at Ross Market House Heritage Centre telephone (01432) 260675 between the opening hours 10am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday and 10.30am to 4pm on Sundays.

The centre is closed for lunch between 1pm and 1.30pm daily, if there are no relief staff members available.
