Textile workshops at Fairfield School

08 May 2008

Herefordshire Council's learning champions are offering people to try their hand at weaving during two special taster workshops.

The Weaving on Hessian workshop is being held in the Textile Room at Fairfield High School, Peterchurch, on Wednesday, May 21 from 4pm until 6pm.

Guided by Wendy Ruddick, the workshop will involve using a variety of materials including wool from Fairfield School's very own alpacas.

People taking part will create their own beautiful hangings to take home as a wall hanging. The workshop costs £8 which includes materials.

A second workshop on appliqué is being held on Thursday, May 22 from 4pm until 6pm, again at the Textile Room, Fairfield High School, Peterchurch.

Wendy Ruddick is the leader for this workshop where people taking part will have the chance to create a collage which will become a stunning wall hanging.

This workshop costs £8 or both workshops can be booked for £14.

Karan McKelvie, Herefordshire Council learning champion, said: "These workshops will be a gentle introduction to both weaving and appliqué, offering people a chance to mix their own creativity with simple weaving and applique techniques."

"No previous experience is necessary and I would encourage people to come along and have some fun being creative," she added.

To book either of these workshops or find out more please telephone Mel Evans at The Courtyard on 01432 346526. People are advised to book now as places will be limited.
