Herefordshire Libraries is proud to launch the exciting new Library Gaming Club, starting with an extended session on Saturday, May 10.
The Library Gaming Club, held at Hereford Library, Broad Street, is offering young people the opportunity to play strategy games, paint miniatures and meet fellow gamers. You can bring your own or use the club's stock of painted figures (at present only Warhammer 40,000).
Backed by the National Literacy Trust, The Lord of The Rings in Libraries, which was launched in January 2001, gave public and school libraries the opportunity to host The Lord of The Rings themed workshops.
These workshops attracted large numbers of boys and young men who otherwise would not have considered entering a library. Following the success of this scheme, Games Workshop has worked alongside libraries to create gaming clubs such as this new one in Herefordshire.
Games Workshop creates entire worlds to explore as you battle your friends on the tabletop. Fight across a war torn fantasy world of heavily armoured Knights and hulking, savage Orcs or engage your opponent on the battlefields of the far future where humanity's existence hangs in the balance and there is only war.
Games Workshop is the largest and most successful tabletop fantasy and futuristic battle-games company in the world. It is a social and convivial activity loved by hobbyists the world over. Its key brands are the high fantasy Warhammer and dark future Warhammer 40,000 game systems.
"We have a selection of Games Workshop's fiction books in Hereford Library and other books in a similar genre for the club members to borrow," said Jon Backhouse, Hereford Library Assistant and Library Gaming Club co-ordinator.
"Currently there is a window display which shows some of the many different types of armies that are available in Warhammer 40,000. We are really enthusiastic about reaching out to boys and teenagers who often don't see that the library has much to offer them and we feel this club will change a few minds."
The extended session on Saturday, May 10 will run from 1pm until 3.30pm and will continue every other Friday between 6pm and 7.15 pm starting Friday May 16 at Hereford Library. For further enquiries just pop into your local library where staff will be happy to provide details. Alternatively, call Hereford Library on 01432 383600.
