Herefordshire Council is looking for the 100th organisation to sign up to the county's community web portal, myherefordshire.com as the site approaches its first birthday.
myherefordshire.com is a public services website launched in June 2007 by Herefordshire Council with funding from Advantage West Midlands, and the European Regional Development Fund. It works by bringing together public information from key organisations across the county to support residents, tourists and businesses.
Partners include the Primary Care Trust, Chamber of Commerce, Hereford Farmers' Market Group, Herefordshire Voluntary Action and a wide range of local parish websites. As well as providing a free events listing opportunity, many organisations use the site to promote sporting, cultural and fundraising events.
myherefordshire.com has a jobs page where users can find out about current vacancies across the council, PCT and other local organisations. Users can upload their own photos, find out what's on in their area, calculate their carbon footprint and check out activities for teenagers in a Youth Zone specifically dedicated to young people.
Since its launch, membership has steadily grown with a large number of organisations regularly adding information to the site. The council is now looking for more Herefordshire-based non-profit or charitable organisations with a web/internet presence to join the site, and the 100th to get in touch will receive a top of the line pocket PC.
Councillor June French, cabinet member for corporate, customer services and human resources, said: "Herefordshire Council has driven the development of this website as part of its commitment to improving services and access to information and facilities across the county. There are many organisations providing essential services and information for the public and myherefordshire.com provides one site where the community can access everything making it easier for people to find what they need.
"The more organisations involved in the portal, the greater the wealth of information available to the public and the more successful the site becomes so we are offering a prize to the 100th organisation to join us."
