Roads to close as part of water works

20 March 2008

As part of works to renew and refurbish water mains in Ross-on-Wye, a series of road closures will be necessary.

The works are essential to improve the quality of water supply in Ross and, in deciding on the road closures, Herefordshire Council has drawn up a plan in consultation with town and county councillors to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum.

Cllr Brian Wilcox, Herefordshire Council's cabinet member for highways and transportation, said: "We have been working closely with people in the town to ensure the road closures are kept to a minimum. All access to frontages will remain open as will access to car parks.

"We want to stress that Ross-on-Wye will be very much open for business during these works and ask people to bear with us and help keep traffic flowing by following indicated diversions," he added.

Roads closed will be:

· April 7: Smallbrook Road for two weeks
· April 21: Chase Road closed for one week
· April 28: Copse Cross Street and High Street (part) for two weeks
· May 12: Station Street and High Street junction closed for three days

Welsh Water capital manager Peter Childs added: "This scheme is vital to ensure that our customers continue to receive a top quality and reliable supply of water direct to their taps.

"We would like to assure customers and businesses that work to upgrade the water mains in the area will be done with the least amount of disruption as possible to their water supplies".
