Former pupil takes on headship

05 March 2008

A former pupil of a Herefordshire school has returned to take over as the head teacher of her old school.

Governors at Hereford's Aylestone High School have appointed Sue Woodrow, a former pupil of the Girls' High School, as the new head teacher.

Sue, who is currently the head teacher at Weobley High School, will take up the post in September.

As well as experiencing what it's like being a pupil in Herefordshire, Sue has wide experience of school management in Herefordshire.

Her ability to drive up standards and make sure every single pupil maximises their full potential has been evident by her success at Weobley High School where, under her direction, the school was brought out of special measures in just two years. Weobley High School has recently been re-examined by Ofsted inspectors who concluded that the school is going from strength to strength.

"We're confident Sue has the experience, ability and qualifications to take Aylestone forward and build on its traditions, strengths and recently acquired Special College Status," said Mr George Nairn, chairman of governors at the school.

One of Sue's first tasks will be to build on Aylestone's traditions and strengths as it fully embraces its new specialist college status.
