The illuminated Speed Indicator Device - known as SID - has been installed in both directions along the A4103 to show motorists what speed they are travelling at.
The speed limit through the area is 40mph.
Mobile SID devices are being used increasing across the UK and have been used in a number of parishes around Herefordshire where problems with speeding motorists have been identified.
"Herefordshire Council has bought the SID units to help reduce the number of speed-related accidents on our roads," said Cllr Brian Wilcox, cabinet member for Highways and Transportation.
"We're working in partnership with parish and town councils which have identified a need for a SID in their area," he added.
Under the scheme, four SID units will operate as temporary installations at suitable locations around the county.
As well as indicating the speed of passing vehicles, the units collect data such as the traffic volume and speed.
This data can then be used by parish councils to identify whether further enforcement action is needed.
Parish or town council's interested in using SID should contact Herefordshire Council's road safety unit on 01432 260946.
