The response to the damage on our roads, estimated to cost £2.5 million in total, will take quite some effort on the part of Herefordshire Council and its partners and will inevitably mean that some other schemes will have to be re-scheduled.
The cost of the repair works will be recovered from Central Government, through a variety of funding schemes.
Despite the flooding, Herefordshire Council does intend to deliver all of the works that it had planned for this financial year, so any re-scheduling will be within the financial year, as far as it is humanly possible to do so.
Councillor Brian Wilcox, Herefordshire Council's cabinet member for highways and transportation, said: "We are also aware that, despite our extensive efforts to identify all damage, we do have in excess of 2,000 miles of roads and some damage may not have found its way onto our list of works.
"If anyone is concerned about damage to our roads, or wishes to report any issue relating to the highway please do so by using our streetcare line 01432 261800 or send an e-mail to streets@herefordshire.gov.uk and we will do our utmost to get it fixed," he added.
