Conservation clinics protect county treasures

20 June 2007

Herefordshire Council is helping researchers and family historians look after the some of the county’s privately owned treasures by providing free conservation clinics at the Record Office in Harold Street Hereford.

This is the third year the council has run the clinics which provide tips and information on keeping historical documentation in good condition.  There are 45-minute individual time slots available for people to book which are free of charge.  They will be held from 9.15am to1pm on:

Saturday 14th July 2007
Saturday  11th August 2007
Saturday 8th September 2007
Saturday 10th  November 2007

Success in previous years indicates time slots are snapped up very quickly so anyone interested is advised to contact the record office as soon as possible on (01432) 260750/260058.

Lorna Lee, archive conservator, said: “With the popularity of family history growing, I thought it would be a good idea to help researchers look after the  memorabilia they collect on their quest, such as birth certificates, photographs and newspaper cuttings.

“There is a whole wealth of historical information out there stored in attics and garages.  We hope our clinics will help people keep their treasures preserved for future generations to explore and enjoy.”
