This was the first May Fair to be held in the city centre since the refurbishment of High Town and no problems with any of the new paving have been reported.
The May Fair left the city centre on Friday, May 11, and the council’s partner Herefordshire Jarvis Services (HJS) worked hard through the morning to return the city centre to its usual clean and tidy state.
Work also continued throughout the morning to reinstate all the street furniture such as seating that was removed to accommodate the fair.
Herefordshire Council’s highways and transportation team together with HJS are now carrying out further cleansing works to the new paving, aimed at clearing away chewing gum and other stains.
This scheme is an important part of the cleansing programme for High Town which aims to maintain its attractiveness for the enjoyment of this larger space by both residents and visitors.
Clive Hall, area manager (central) said: “My thanks go to everyone involved in the management of the May Fair, both from within the council and our partner organisations.
“The May Fair has provided a major test for new paving in High Town and I’m pleased to say it has passed with flying colours. It is now business as usual in High Town with the return of the regular catering stalls and events,” he added.
