A draft plan has been produced setting out the way forward for countryside access in Herefordshire over the next five years and members of the public are being invited to comment on it.
Herefordshire Council recognises that local rights of way are a significant part of the county’s heritage and a major recreational resource. They also boost tourism, boost local rural economies and provide a convenient means of travel for residents.
The Rights of Way Improvement Plan outlines current access to the countryside, considers the needs of members of the public and groups and puts forward an action plan to improve the current network of footpaths, bridleways and byways.
Key aims of the plan are to enhance health, well-being and enjoyment of life, increase economic prosperity, improve sustainable transport, provide access for all and increase community involvement.
Rob Hemblade, public rights of way manager, said: “We fully recognise the importance of rights of way to the county’s residents who enjoy walks in the countryside and of course for tourists and would welcome their comments on the plan for improving the existing network.”
The draft plan is available electronically on the Rights of way improvement plan page or in print form from Info in Herefordshire Centres and libraries.
The deadline for responses from the public is July 27, 2007.
Responses should be sent to Alison Roberts, PROW Development Officer, Queenswood Country Park, Dinmore Hill, Leominster, Herefordshire HR6 0PY or email aroberts@herefordshire.gov.uk
