Postal ballot delays – people may still vote, says council

Herefordshire Council has advised that local people who have not received their postal vote form should please turn up at their polling station, with identification, and they will be able to register their vote.

Herefordshire is one of dozens of local authorities that have fallen victim to delays in the printing of postal ballot papers in the run up to the elections this Thursday, May 3. Printers of postal votes alerted the council of the delay and the council has ensured that almost everyone who applied for their postal vote received their forms. However, the council is making provision for an estimated 300 people who may not have received their postal ballot paper in time.

“We apologise for the delay which has been out of our hands. As soon as the printing company told us there was a problem and we were short of ballot papers we took action”, said a spokesperson. “We are concerned that a few people may not have received their postal ballot papers in time to register their vote. They may do so if they turn up to their polling station with proof of their name and address, which could be a driving licence, passport, library ticket or letter from a utility company or bank. If they have their postal ballot paper they can also bring that into the polling station to vote. They will be checked against the electoral register and will be allowed to register their vote”.
