Walks offer wizard time

24 April 2007

Do your children love Harry Potter, are they fascinated with learning how people lived in the Iron Age or do they love spooky goings on?

If so why not join in some of the special events aimed at children being held as part of this year’s Herefordshire Walking Festival, sponsored by Leominster-based M&M Sports.

For Potter fans, the Hedwigs of Herefordshire walk on Sunday, June 24 from 2.30pm until 5.30pm offers children the chance to see the magic of wildlife and meet pygmy goats, miniature horses, donkeys and, of course, owls.

The Landscape Detectives: Life and Death in the Iron Age walk on Sunday, June 17, will visit the Iron Age fort at Cherry Hill and various aspects of life and death from the period will be discussed.

For children who enjoy spooky goings-on, then the Angels of the Night walk on Wednesday June 20 from 8.45pm till late at Bodenham will give them a chance to listen out for bats with special detectors.

Three walks are also specially designed for families.

They are Marvellous Meadow Mini Beasts on Saturday, June 16, from 10am until noon which offers a chance to explore the Lugg meadows and the myriad of minibeasts who make this area their home.

Wild Connections is being held on Saturday, June 16 from 2pm until 4pm where families will be able to find out more about Ross-on-Wye, while More Than Just a View on Sunday, June 17 from 10am until 1pm, offers a chance to learn about organic farming at Holme Lacy College estate.

Bookings must be made for all walks and this can be done online at http://www.walkingfestival.com/ or by telephoning 01568 797842.

Herefordshire Walking Festival is being held from June 16 to 24 with a variety of walks on offer. For details see the website http://www.walkingfestival.com/
