Bridge in troubled waters at Sutton St Nicholas

20 April 2007

An accident on a narrow road in Sutton St Nicholas has resulted in temporary traffic lights being installed while repairs are carried out to the river bridge.

The accident on the C1125, which involved two cars on Tuesday afternoon this week, April 17, caused damage to the one of the arches on Wergins bridge, not far from current roadworks to install sewers for the new school in the village.

Motorists are being advised that the temporary traffic lights will be in use for around eight weeks as concrete barriers will have to placed on the road to protect workmen while they dismantle and reconstruct the damaged section of the bridge.

A survey is due to be carried out to determine the full extent of the damage.
