Archive away-day

20 April 2007

Time-travelling researchers who use the Herefordshire Record Office to delve into the past by examining ancient documents are being invited to spread their wings with a visit to the National Archives in Kew, London.

Herefordshire Council’s archive service is organising the coach trip, which will take place on Wednesday May 30.

Information Services Manager Elizabeth Semper O’Keefe said: “Many of our readers need to follow up their research here by consulting documents held in London.

“We want to offer the chance for them to do this effectively and at a reasonable cost. If the outing proves popular, we may well make it a regular feature,” she added.

The trip will include an introduction to the National Archives and the opportunity to spend some quality research time.

Elizabeth added: “The National Archives is very close to some other major attractions, including Kew Gardens. Anyone wishing to join us in order to visit these instead is most welcome to come along”.

The cost for joining the coach trip is £14, including a non-returnable deposit of £5, payable at time of booking.

The coach will leave the car park at Herefordshire Record Office in Harold Street at 7am and start the return journey from the National Archives at 5pm.

Anyone interested in coming along should contact the Herefordshire Archive Service on 01432 260750 by Monday, April 30.
