Herefordshire Council’s Green Croft and Springfield children’s centres offer local families a wide range of services and the doors will be thrown open for people to learn about these from 10am-2pm, on 16th and 19th March.
Both centres hold baby clinics where parents can talk to health visitors and get their babies weighed. They also provide speech therapy services, play sessions for parents and toddlers, drop in sessions for young parents to be, and a base where local childminders can meet for advice and support.
In addition, the Green Croft Centre is encouraging local families to adopt healthier lifestyles and give up smoking by offering a new smoking cessation service.
The Springfield Centre has a well-equipped multi-sensory room, ideal for babies or children with special needs and also runs a postnatal group for both English and Polish speaking parents.
Both centres have dedicated workers offering fun, play-based activities and crafts for carers, parents and children to share, including stay and play sessions, soft play sessions, story telling and coffee mornings and post natal group meetings so that parents and carers can meet other families in a relaxed environment.
Viv Daly, centre manager, said: “Both centres have a lot to offer local families and we’re looking forward to meeting new and existing mums, dads, grandparents, carers and children at our open days. We’ve got lots of exciting activities planned.
“Having children can be very isolating, particularly if there is no family around to support you. The open days will bring families together helping people make new friends, have some fun and learn about some of the regular activities provided by the centres.
Councillor Don Rule, cabinet member for children and young people, said: “Herefordshire is fortunate to have these facilities and we hope the open days will encourage new users to the centres.
“Both centres bring together expert advice and support from a range of local agencies and organisations, working with local pre-schools, health services and primary schools to make sure young children and their families have the best possible start in life.”
The Council’s Green Croft centre is located next to Marlbrook Primary School will hold its open day on 16th March and the Springfield centre which is on the site of Riverside Primary School will hold its open day on 19th March.
