Leintwardine Endowed Church School is outstanding

24 January 2007

Children, staff and parents at Leintwardine Endowed Church School are celebrating following the publication of an inspection report, which judged the school to be outstanding.

As the school is voluntary aided, it receives a statutory inspection from the National Society of Anglican Schools as well as the government’s regulatory body, Ofsted.

The National Society report praises the high standards of behaviour, strong leadership and caring ethos of the school.  Care for children by all members of staff is outstanding, collective worship is a powerful part of the life of the school, the children feel valued and special and say they are happy with the systems in the school set up to help them.

In addition the inspector praised a new building project, which has provided a wonderful large light and airy space in the centre of the school from which a wide range of creative and curriculum-based activities take place.

To help mark the celebrations, the school’s 88 children and 14 staff have embarked on a frenzy of activity, taking the Nutcracker story to heart and focussing a whole school curriculum topic around it.

Head teacher, Mrs Ann Davies, said: “We’re very proud of our close knit family school.  The staff are a fantastic team and full of creative ideas to make our curriculum exciting.   We believe learning should be a fun and enjoyable experience for all our children.

“One of the best themes we had was a pirate day – the whole school was involved including myself – I was made to walk the plank!”

Councillor Don Rule, cabinet member for children and young people, said: “The head teacher is referred to in the report as an inspirational leader who has moved the school forward rapidly.

“Congratulations to Mrs Davies, her enthusiastic staff, and the governing body who together are providing an exciting and creative learning environment for the children.”
