Gorsley school goes from strength to strength

16 January 2007

Staff, children and governors at Gorsley Goffs Endowed Primary School in Ross on Wye are celebrating following the success of a recent church inspection.

As the school is voluntary aided, it undergoes a National Society Statutory Inspection of Church Schools as well as an inspection by the government’s regulatory body Ofsted.  The church inspections focus specifically on the Christian ethos of the school.

The inspection took place just before Christmas and concludes that the school is a very good Christian school with many outstanding features.

The report said the school is outstanding at meeting the needs of all learners and commented on the children’s happiness and security, their businesslike and confident approach to work, their sense of fun and the excellent relationships they enjoy with each other and with adults.

The inspector referred to the deep love and care shown to all children, the excellent relationships between all school members and the supportive partnerships with local churches.

Richard Humphrey, head teacher, said: “All members of the school are extremely pleased with the report, particularly the acknowledgement that the school, through its Christian foundation, is outstanding at meeting the needs of all learners and that children’s behaviour and attitudes are excellent.

“Thanks go to the hard working staff, the support of the parents and governors, and of course the children.”

Councillor Don Rule, cabinet member for children and young people, said: “This is excellent news and goes to show what can be achieved through strong and effective leadership.

“I am delighted for the 153 children who are benefiting from the caring and Christian ethos of the school and congratulate the whole school community.”
