Estech gets green light

24 November 2006

Estech’s plans for a waste treatment and recycling plant at Madley have been given the green light by Herefordshire Council.

Members of the authority’s planning committee voted in favour of a recommendation to approve the application by 12 votes to seven when it met today,  Friday, November 24.

Prior to the vote, the committee voted against a motion put forward to refuse the application by seven votes to ten.

In coming to their decision, committee members, who had visited the site, debated highways and environmental issues in great depth.

They received extensive reports setting out in detail why the likely effects would be well within acceptable limits.

They concluded that the scheme would be acceptable and would enable the beneficial use of land on an under-used industrial estate.

Estech now need to obtain a waste management licence from the Environment Agency before it can operate the facility – the company already has one of these licenses to operate a similar plant in Worcestershire.
