In its 69th annual touring exhibition, the Society of Wood Engravers will exhibit prints made from wood engravings in the county’s art gallery.
Texture is used to create perspective resulting in stunning black and white prints covering a broad range of styles and subject matters. Exhibits include a rural scene of sheep sleeping under a tree and a Kathmandu back street.
Hilary Paynter, the society’s chairman says: “Our annual exhibitions attract work from across the globe with artists from Japan, Ukraine, Poland, Italy, Holland, France, Brazil, Canada and the USA.
“Three students are include in this year’s show; one of them is still at school.”
The Museum will display a further exhibition on the stairs above the library foyer featuring Chris Foster’s latest paintings in a large series of sequenced works that he has been producing since 1990.
“New Work (2000-2006) is his latest and is his first direction into larger scale work.”
“We are delighted to be able to bring such an array of unusual and quite eye-catching works of art to Hereford once again,” said Lara Latcham, Visitor Services Officer.
“Both exhibitors have visited us before and have been particularly well received by art lovers.
“The two exhibitions are very different from each other and we hope they will attract lots of newcomers as well as our regulars.”
Admission to Hereford Museum and Art Gallery is free with access for visitors with disabilities.
The museum is open from 10am-5pm Tuesday to Saturday (Saturday 23rd and 30th December 10am-4pm) and closed on Sundays and Mondays.
