Women take centre stage at Hereford Craft Fair

27 October 2006

Women are well represented at Hereford’s famous Contemporary Craft Fair in November, when around 60 talented craftspeople will be exhibiting at the Courtyard Centre for the Arts.

Promoted by Herefordshire Council, the craft fair is now in its 13th year and runs on 17,18 and 19 November.

In addition to the first class jewellers, ceramicists, textile artists, basket makers, wire sculptors and leather workers, there is also furniture, sculpture and larger scale work.

Free blown glass inspired by the Arctic Winters will be featured by the internationally renowned glass artist, Clare Henshaw, which can be seen for the first time at this years’ show.

Another rising star is Hereford jeweller Shivani Patel, whose striking fine saw-pierced precious metals will be fresh from the International Jewellery London Show in September.

Other women exhibitors of exceptional quality include: Claudia Lis’ cool, contemporary porcelain; Rebecca Gouldson’s dramatic and innovative metalwork; and stunning new range earthenware from the respected and collectable Patia Davis.

Said Councillor Roy Stockton, cabinet member for community services: “The Craft Fair is well worth a visit as an exhibition in its own right, but it also gives the opportunity to buy or commission original work direct from the maker.

“Whether it’s silver or glass, leather or ceramic, there is a wide range of work to suit all tastes. It all support’s the county’s reputation as a centre for creativity and the arts”.

The Hereford Craft Fair has built and maintained a reputation as the leading event of its kind in the West Midlands – you can see why by visiting the catalogue at www.craftfair.uk.com.

Open from 10am – 6pm on Friday and Saturday, and 10am – 5pm on Sunday, the fair is complemented by the excellent facilities at The Courtyard, including local food and drink available at the café bar.

Herefordshire Council promotes the Hereford Contemporary Craft Fair as part of the Creative Industries Programme.
